Job Title:
Quality Support Manager
Start Date:
June 2023
Eric Bain started his career as a time-served electrician; he is now the Quality Support Manager at Taylor and Fraser. We caught up with Eric to learn more about his role and his experience working with Taylor and Fraser.
What was your starting role at Taylor and Fraser?
My first role was as Compliance Manager. It’s a role I continue to fulfil in addition to my new role. It primarily involves the NICEIC sign-off of electrical installations.
Can you give us a brief description of your current role?
I am the Quality Support Manager at Taylor and Fraser, which means I oversee the quality process on our projects. While it’s not a statutory requirement, Taylor and Fraser correctly consider it good practice to document and evidence our processes throughout the project’s lifespan. This process begins with items such as the Project Plan and introductions to the Project Team, and progresses through Quality Plans, Inspection and Test Plans, check sheets with photographic records, culminating in a Quality Report submitted to the client upon project completion.
What aspects of your role do you particularly like?
As a time-served electrician with many years of experience working on electrical installations, I like the fact that I am putting my acquired knowledge and real-world experience to excellent use in a way that demonstrates Taylor and Fraser’s approach and their commitment to quality.
Do you find the company supportive in terms of personal development?
Yes, they are very supportive of anyone who wants to progress and take on new challenges. Personal development is at the core of the business; there are many excellent people at Taylor and Fraser who started in more junior positions and have been supported in their career development by the company.
What do you like about working with Taylor and Fraser?
There are many things I like. I’d probably say the main thing is how supportive everybody is of one another. There is a genuine team spirit, where everyone looks after one another.
Another notable positive is the very low staff turnover; this enables you to build strong relationships with your colleagues, which in turn results in even better teamwork.
The Suir acquisition has also been a real step forward for the business, not only in physical terms, such as the refurbishment of the Head Office, but also in the introduction of more electronic systems and processes. However, the biggest impact will be the opportunities it presents for involvement in larger projects across various sectors. It certainly makes for an interesting future!
What do you do outside of work?
I have four kids, which has tended to keep me busy in the past. Although they have all left home now, they still receive a lot of my attention!
I am passionate about cycling and was a very active cyclist and Parent Helper with my local cycle club in the past. However, a health condition (and the passing years!) has necessitated the adoption of a pedal-assist electric bike for some assistance. However, it allows me to continue to enjoy cycling at a pace I can manage.
We’d like to thank Eric for taking part and for his ongoing commitment to Taylor and Fraser. He is a great ambassador for the business and a well-respected member of the team.
