Job Title:
Contracts Supervisor
Start Date:
February 2006
Andrew is another of our team members who joined us on a 4-year Apprenticeship; almost 20 years later, he’s still with us! Andrew was happy to share his experience of working at Taylor and Fraser, as well as some of the more recent changes he has witnessed within the company.
What was your starting role at Taylor and Fraser?
I joined Taylor and Fraser as an Apprentice Heating Engineer in 2006. Following the 4-year apprenticeship programme, I was hired as a Heating Engineer. My next promotion was to become a Foreman, a role I enjoyed for around five years before moving up to Non-Working Foreman. The next promotion was to Mechanical Supervisor for around 3 years, and now I am a Contract Supervisor.
Can you give us a brief description of your current role?
My current role is primarily site-based, where I oversee Quality Assurance, Mechanical Installation works, and Compliance, ensuring the contract progresses efficiently, effectively, and in line with the agreed-upon programme.
What aspects of your role do you particularly like?
I enjoy being on-site and seeing a project come to life and progress to completion. I’ve been involved in a wide range of projects, which is another appealing aspect of my role. During my time with Taylor and Fraser, I have worked on a diverse range of projects, including Distilleries, new-build primary schools, Fish Farms, Universities, Stately homes, such as Dumfries House, part of the King’s Foundation, and most recently, an NHS Project.
It’s great to work with a broad client portfolio across various sectors; it certainly creates some interesting experiences.
Do you find the company supportive in terms of personal development?
Yes, it was good in the past, but the arrival of Suir Engineering has taken it to a whole new level. They are committed to upskilling and betterment. There are now many more opportunities to learn and develop. A couple of my colleagues are already receiving support to go through university degree courses, and they have a very accessible App, Cornerstone. Through this, everyone can easily access internal training and identify opportunities to develop new skills.
They certainly are a company that invests heavily in its people.
What do you like about working with Taylor and Fraser?
I think the standout thing for me is the variety of work, and with the Suir Engineering addition, that will only get better. We are expanding into an even wider range of markets and undertaking larger projects, so the future looks very promising indeed.
I also have to mention the people, my fellow team members. All of them are supportive of one another, and it makes such a big difference to be surrounded by good people.
What do you do outside of work?
I do like walking when I get the time. However, with three children between the ages of 6 and 15, it’s not always easy. However, spending time with the family is a great way to unwind outside of work. Although I’m currently only the second-best Uno player in the family, my 6-year-old daughter sees to that!
Is there anything else you’d like to add?
The only thing I’d add is that I’m really positive about the future with Taylor and Fraser. We’ve witnessed many positive changes over the last year, from the completion of our fully refurbished offices to the learning and development opportunities and the ambitious plans for the future development of the business. The future looks bright!
Andrew is a great ambassador for the business and another excellent example of someone who has enjoyed advancement within the company. We thank him for his dedication and hard work. Perhaps we could send him on an Uno training course to help advance his household rankings!
