As part of a successful measured term programme of works, Taylor and Fraser was the principal contractor for the construction of the new main staircase, linking ground to 6th floor of Royal College, a Grade A listed building at the University of Strathclyde. The project involved major structural alterations to Royal College which was carried out whilst the building remained in operation. This necessitated close co-operation with the client and design team to ensure the health and safety welfare interests of staff, students, visitor and all members of the work force and this was achieved with a 100% accident free record.
Scope of Work
The All Trades construction work comprised:
- Formation of new openings in structural floor
- New structural steel frame
- Manufacture and installation of new steel staircase
- Powder coated steel balustrading
- Stainless steel handrails
- Terrazzo and vinyl floor finishes
- Wall and ceiling finishes
- Fire screen and doors
- Electrical installation
