Following its acquisition by the Duke of Rothesay, Taylor and Fraser were appointed to install a modern heating system and biomass heat source to the Historic Grade A Listed Dumfries House. A project which quickly developed into a complete electrical re-wire, and the installation of plumbing and water services. To facilitate the Building Services works, service routes were required to be established within the building fabric necessitating downtaking works and extensive lifting and relaying of floor boards.

Scope of Work

There were a substantial number of unique and valuable items including Chippendale furniture, ornate fireplaces, original library casements, and historic tapestries within the building that the Client was unable to relocate. This lead to a substantial requirement for special protection. An added feature of the introduction of heat to the building was that it could only be done very gradually so as not to damage the internal fabric and fitments, this was controlled through sensors located at each valuable item.
