We are delighted that ‘our boy’, Calum McLay, played a pivotal role in last weekend’s Scotland vs Ireland shinty-hurling international. Calum was sponsored for the game by Taylor and Fraser, and we’re delighted he was Scotland’s top performer with 2 goals and 1 point.
Calum’s important contribution helped Scotland defeat Ireland for the first time since 2019.
It was a tense and nail-biting finish to a great match. For those unfamiliar with the scoring, a goal is worth 3 points and a score over the bar is worth 1 point. The final score was Ireland 2 – 17 (23 points, 2 goals) – Scotland 4 – 12 (24 points, 4 goals).
Goals from midfielders Neary and Diarmaid Stritch kept Ireland in touch playing against the wind, and they even looked like likely winners entering the final 10 minutes. However, Iain Robinson and Innes Blackhall’s goals set up a thrilling finish.
Deep in injury time, Zander Michie pointed a last-gasp penalty to give Scotland the win at SuperValu Páirc Uí Chaoimh.
Taylor and Fraser’s relationship with Calum goes back to his time as a player at Glasgow Mid Argyll Shinty Club. Taylor and Fraser is still a proud sponsor of the club’s two men’s teams. This year, Calum signed for shinty’s top side, Kingussie, where he has had a fantastic season. However, when he pulls on the international shirt, we still consider him to be ‘our boy’. For that reason, we were happy to sponsor him for the international match, and we’re delighted he played a prominent role in the outcome.
Taylor and Fraser have long been associated with shinty-hurling. GMA has two men’s teams, two women’s teams, under-17s, and under-14s, and works closely with the Gaelic Medium Primary Schools in Glasgow and East Dunbartonshire to provide pathways into the sport.
Our sponsorship aligns with the company’s values and heritage; it supports sport and culture that has endured for generations; we hope our contributions help ensure it continues for many more years at club and international level.
