We recently completed another project in the Rankine Building at Oakfield Road, Glasgow, for the University of Glasgow.
Starting with an ECI period, we conducted preconstruction surveys and as-built markups of the existing space in room 406 of the Rankine Building. The previous use of the room was a computer study space that was now dated and not entirely inviting to users; we were appointed to carry out construction works to create a new collaboration space for the building’s users.
Construction works began with a full strip-out of the area, including the removal of the existing front wall, ceiling, floor, furniture, and mechanical and electrical services.
We then installed new Mechanical services, including new ventilation, ductwork and external AHU. We also installed new Electrical services and fire alarm systems, including bespoke hanging lighting and wall lighting. New power for the kitchen servery and island.
The interior finishes included the supply and installation of bespoke acoustic wall panelling, new flooring throughout, and wall decoration. We also manufactured and installed 30-minute fire-rated glazed screens at the front of the space to allow additional daylight into the area.
Upon completion of the works, we also oversaw the installation of the furniture supplied by a university-appointed contractor.
Throughout the project, we worked closely with Neal Bowman, Associate at AECOM, and Jenon Stewart, Project Manager at the University of Glasgow. The collaboration has resulted in the delivery of a fresh, new space that is much better suited to the users. The bright modern space is already proving to be a popular space to meet and collaborate.
Speaking about the project, Taylor and Fraser’s Construction Director, Angus MacInnes, said: “We are delighted with the outcome on Level 4 at the Rankine Building. The university now has a bright, modern space that is much better suited to students’ and staff’s requirements.
“Credit must go to the University of Glasgow, their approach to property maintenance and continual upgrading ensures the staff and students can thrive in spaces that are suitable for modern working practices.
“We are delighted to work with them on these projects and to provide the benefit of our expertise and experience to make the University of Glasgow a truly wonderful place to work and study.”
Below, we have included some images of the finished project on Level 4.
