At Taylor and Fraser we have worked hard to establish an organisational culture whereby everyone places health and safety first and foremost in everything they do. It is for this reason that we are delighted to support once again ‘No Falls Week‘, which runs from the 12th to 16th May this year.
Run by the No Falls Foundation, the purpose of the week-long campaign is to focus attention on the risks associated with working at height, and to provide helpful guidance on best practice and ultimately reduce the number of falls in the workplace.
The No Falls Foundation is the first and only UK-based charity devoted exclusively to the work at height sector. The Foundation is dedicated to preventing falls from height and helping people affected by the life-changing consequences of a fall here in the UK.
Every year, hundreds of thousands of people work at heights in a variety of industry sectors. Work at height takes place in every sector from construction, roofing and facilities management, but there are also countless others who work at height on a day-to-day basis – often without realising it – in shops, offices, factories and hospitals. What they all have in common is risk. The risk of a fall that might kill them or leave them with serious life-changing injuries with potentially devastating consequences for their families, friends and work colleagues.
Falls from heights are consistently the leading cause of workplace fatalities in the UK. The latest figures from the HSE show that 50 people lost their lives at work due to a fall from height in 2023/24. Falls from height were responsible for 36% of all workplace deaths (this proportion was 25% in 2021/22, rising to 30% in 2022/23).
The No Falls Foundation has three distinct objectives:
- To help keep people safe by creating greater awareness and understanding of the risks associated with working at height;
- To better understand the causes of falls from height through research and the exchange of information and knowledge;
- To support those people facing the aftermath and consequences of a fall from height.
At Taylor and Fraser, we fully support the vital work of the No Falls Foundation and endorse ‘No Falls Week’ as an essential campaign to raise awareness of the risks and help make workplaces safer for everyone.
