Taylor and Fraser undertook the formation of a new Endoscopy Unit and Observation Ward at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. The work comprised the demolition of the existing Endoscopy Unit and adjacent office accommodation and the alteration and refurbishment of existing wards and offices. In addition a new extension was formed within an internal courtyard, providing additional floor space. This was a demanding project due to the complexity of services, infection control requirements and the sensitive occupied environment, in which the works were undertaken. It was also a flagship project for NHS Lothian and was visited during the construction period by Nicola Sturgeon, the Scottish Secretary for Health and Wellbeing. Overall completion was achieved in May 2009.
