Project Overview

project name: Elderpark Clinic, Glasgow
quantity surveyor: Storrier and Donaldson Services
client: Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS
services consultant: Taylor and Fraser
value: £2.1m
structural engineer: Henderson Warnock
architect: McLean Architects
main contractor: Taylor and Fraser

The new build extension to Elderpark Clinic provides services to the Greater Pollok and Elderpark Older People’s Mental Health Teams (CMHTs). The limitation of the site footprint and the proximity of existing buildings provided both an architectural design and construction challenge yet future flexibility and adaptability of the internal space has been achieved through the use of long structural spans.

The welcoming glazed entrance leads to a double height waiting and reception areas, patient clinical accommodation, interview and treatment rooms. In addition to the bright and airy space inside, particular attention was also made to the external space, notably with a specially designed sensory garden to provide a calming environment for patient recovery. Taylor and Fraser was in a unique position to facilitate the successful completion of this project by drawing on its combined construction and engineering capabilities.

Scope of Work

The added value of this service capability meant that the company could integrate the engineering services within the restricted site because the planning and sequencing of all activities was undertaken in-house. Taylor and Fraser has considerable expertise in healthcare projects, which enabled the company to provide a new fit for purpose building to suit the needs of patients and staff alike.

The project comprised the following:

  • The three storey steel frame construction with timber frame infill panels and a rendered masonry external skin
  • Polished masonry block work
  • Curtain walling
  • Mechanical services
  • Electrical services
